2 People Missing in Queen of the North sinking
Gerald Foisey and Shirley Rosette are the two passengers who haven't been found since the disastrous sinking of a BC ferry, the Queen of the North, yesterday. Reports have said that the couple were walk-ons and that family members dropped them off and saw them board the ferry. But since the sinking there has been no word from either Gerald or Shirley. Eye witness accounts say they were spotted in Hartley Bay, where the rescue operation started from, but with no sign or word of the couple, it doesn't look good. Today BC Ferries has issued a statement saying that they are now in a body recovery mode, and will send divers to the wreckage later today. So sad to see this happen in BC waters; although our waters are so dangerous and considered one of the most dangerous in the world. This event has renewed political pressure on the Liberal government for lack of funding and capital spending on the BC Ferry fleet, which has an average life per boat of over 30 years. The NDP tried to rebuild the fleet in the notorious FastCAT scandal, but since then, the idea of funding and rebuilding the fleet has become politically disastrous for the party in power. If this does become a sad tragedy, then the Liberal government will have some very tough questions to answer.
